✨ Jean Grant, Executive Director

Jean Grant has over two decades of experience as a development professional in higher education and the nonprofit world, with a passion for education, leadership, and service to the community. She holds an undergraduate degree in Communications and a Master’s degree in Leadership Studies. Throughout her career, Jean has successfully secured significant funding for causes such as education, AIDS research, the arts, homelessness, at-risk youths, and immigration. Jean credits her Midwestern upbringing for her strong work ethic and commitment to service, as well as her belief in the importance of the larger community. Her true joy comes from using her gifts and talents to make a difference in the world.

 

✨ Stephanie Peralta, Immigration Attorney

Stephanie Peralta was born and raised in Pasadena, California. She is a first-generation college graduate, earning a Bachelor’s in Sociology and a Bachelor’s in Linguistics from the University of California at Davis. She recently received a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law. In her free time, she enjoys baking, crafting, and dancing. As a daughter of immigrants, she has always had a passion for helping the immigrant community, and she is thrilled to follow this passion through the IRCSGV.

🎙️ Guest Speaker | Heidi Lau

Stop Hate Program Manager | Asian Youth Center (AYC)

Heidi Lau is a Program Manager at the Asian Youth Center (AYC), where she specializes in the Stop Hate program. She joined AYC in 2021 with a passion for providing a variety of information and tools to educate the community to combat AAPI hate, keeping the community prepared and equipped when confronted with hate crimes and hate incidents. By promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion, her goal is to achieve zero hate tolerance in the community. Heidi currently serves as the Advisory Board member on both the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office as well as AAPI Connect, a youth-led non-profit organization that connects the public with AAPI culture and AAPIs with civic engagement, anti-hate resources, and broader society. As a first-generation immigrant from Hong Kong, Heidi is fluent in both Cantonese and Mandarin.

- President of the LWV of Greater Los Angeles

Ms. Field has had a lifelong career in education, starting at Evans Adult School in Los Angeles and later teaching sociology and political science at Glendale Community College. She served four terms on the Governing Board of the Los Angeles Community College District, and has held leadership positions in various educational organizations, including Vice President of the California Federation of Teachers and President of the Glendale College Guild. She has also been involved in advisory roles with organizations such as the Faculty Association of California Community Colleges and the Center for California Studies. Ms. Field is the author of California Government and Politics Today.

🎙️ Guest Speaker | Patti Giggans | Executive Director of Peace Over Violence

Patti Giggans has been the Executive Director of Peace Over Violence (formerly LACAAW) since 1985. She has served on various local, state and national advisory committees, boards of directors and is a past Chair and a current Commissioner of the LA County Sheriff's Civilian Oversight Commission. Patti is the founder of Denim Day, has co-created violence prevention curricula, and co-authored several books including When Dating Becomes Dangerous. Giggans received The California Peace Prize, Angel of Peace Award, the 2016 Visionary Voice Award, and is a Durfee Foundation Stanton Fellow.

NWPC-SGV Musical fundraiser

🎭 The Right Is Ours! is about the extraordinary friendship of two women, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony, whose efforts spurred the creation of the Women’s Suffragist Movement, and the impact of that relationship on the suffragist movement and women winning the right to vote. 🎭

🎼 "The Right is Ours!” is a powerful slogan created by Elizabeth.

The wearing of face masks is recommended at this event. 🎼

⏳ Runtime: 90 minutes with no intermission. ⏳

ℹ️ We have reserved the Sunday, October 1st, 2 p.m. show for our Chapter. ℹ️

🎟️ Ticket price is $48.00. 🎟️

🎶  Half of the proceeds will go to NWPC SGV.  🎶 

Tickets can be picked up from Will Call at the Sierra Madre box office.
